World Asthma Day, and also the first day of our Limelight fundraising and awareness raising week.
Going to start the day at a coffee morning in aid of Asthma UK at Novartis in Surrey. Novartis are supporting a new project we are doing this year exploring the perspective and experiences of people with severe asthma.
Today, of course, we launch our report on children and asthma. We’ll be doing media interviews throughout the day highlighting the problems children with asthma report.
In essence, we need to make schools safe, ensure teachers have more understanding and act early to stop asthma being a barrier to opportunity.
This evening we have our annual parliamentary reception. It will be good to see lots of friends and supporters there, and hear government respond to our report. We will be asking what they intend to do to achieve more focus on health in schools, and whether they will support a Private Members’ Bill to give OFSTED the role of inspecting schools’ policies for children with medical conditions.
That seems to us an effective way to make sure that policies affect practice and don’t just sit on the shelf.
The start of an important week
