In predictably chaotic fashion, Heathrow’s new terminal opened last Thursday. Whilst thousands of travellers arriving from Europe spent hours getting increasingly infuriated in long queues, another visitor to our shores was rapidly making his way round the tube network hoping to set a new Tube Challenge record incorporating the new Piccadilly line Terminal 5 station.
‘The Flying Finn’ from Tampere, Finland via Bournemouth made a valiant attempt to get round all 269 stations. After an encouraging start (a good connection at Moor Park, no delays at Stanmore) his bid was eventually scuppered by the early closure of the Victoria line. This leaves the way open for Justin and I to post the time to beat tomorrow!
Tonight we make our way up to Amersham, ready for our early start tomorrow. We will be staying at Nita Hurley’s B&B enjoying her warm hospitality, comfortable beds and, if Mr & Mrs Spiller from Australia are to be believed, an unforgettable fried breakfast.
The whole build up to the big day has been fantastic. The planning has been surprisingly enjoyable and the generosity of our supporters astounding. We have now raised over £5,000, which could ensure that over 860 people with asthma receive life-changing support and advice from a specialist asthma nurse on the Asthma UK Adviceline.
Fingers crossed for minor delays only tomorrow and, if you are on the tube, look out for two madmen in lime green Asthma UK T-shirts. Apologies in advance if we barge past you in a hurry to make our next connection!
One day to go
