Going the distance

I’m not usually very good at keeping New Year resolutions, but my cunning plan this year was to sign up to the London 2 Brighton Challenge in aid of Asthma UK. That way I could enjoy the turkey, mince pies and mulled wine safe in the knowledge that I would not be able to ignore my need to get fitter in the New Year.

And now January has come, I’ve made a promising start.

I’ve completed two long practice walks in the Ashdown Forest, and more unusually for me, I have started a daily exercise plan.

And today I created a JustGiving page (please support me at justgiving.com/NeilChurchill).

I will skip over the facts that my first walk was nearly a swim in the driving rain and that I forgot to use my inhaler before exercise, leaving me breathless afterwards. I really should have remembered our nurses' advice on asthma and exercise.

The point is that it's a good start. OK, only a few steps in the right direction, when 100km worth are needed. But better than previous New Year resolutions. So please help me keep it going by joining in or supporting me to go the distance!
