In recent years, your chances of being hospitalised for asthma in Liverpool have been considerably greater than most other parts of the country.

This local effect has several causes but can be devastating. Basically, people are living with badly controlled asthma, which is leaving them vulnerable to sudden acute asthma attacks. And those attacks can kill.

The NHS works extremely hard but can't prevent these emergency admissions on its own. Crucially, many people with asthma do not realise that their asthma is uncontrolled and so do not ask for help. And those who do often find it hard to get help when they need it or rely on A&E to help them manage.

That's why Asthma UK has launched our Asthma Activists programme in the city.

Asthma Activists are volunteers with asthma who can offer tips, signpost services and encourage others to manage their asthma or seek help when they need it.

We believe that Asthma Activists can make a big contribution to reducing hospitalisations and deaths in Liverpool. But we need more of them to make it work.

So if you live in Liverpool or have friends or family with asthma in Liverpool who might enjoy helping others, please get in touch to find out more.
