Since my last post there have been some exciting developments in our campaign to get national standards for asthma.

One of our closest supporters in Parliament is Howard Stoate.  Howard manages to operate simultaneously as a General Practitioner, Member of Parliament for Dartford and chair of the Asthma All Party Group.

He has tabled a motion setting out our campaign - you can track its progress here.

We are hoping to get 100-plus signatures, which would make it very hard for the Government to ignore our campaign. If you want to get involved, sign up to our e-campaign where you can contact your MP and ask them to sign the motion on your behalf. Our campaign is aimed at the Health Minister Ann Keen. She used to be a nurse - we’re hoping to appeal to her bedside manner so that she will prescribe asthma its very own clinical strategy.

As ever, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are leading the way with commitments for their own asthma strategies. About time that England joined in, don’t you think? As I’ve said before, it could save millions of pounds for the NHS – and I reckon the Government would welcome a few savings at the moment.

Hi Paige. Fantastic news that you are cycling for us, that's proof that asthma needn't hold anyone back. Sadly, other young people have told me they are barred from school trips or physical exercise at school simply because they have asthma. That's one of the reasons we want more school nurses, schools with asthma policies and national standards. Many people have emailed me to say they are getting in touch with their MP to argue the case - the more of us who do, the better chance we have got. Good luck with the cycling and let us know how it goes.
